Built to WCAG 2.1 Level AA
Greene County Emergency Medical Systems, Inc. wants everyone in our community to be able to read about our service, find our coverage area, and get in touch with us, whatever device or assistive technology they use. We design and maintain greene-ems.com to meet the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1 at Level AA, the standard referenced under the Americans with Disabilities Act.
Every page of this site is checked against WCAG 2.1 A and AA automated rules, and reviewed by hand for the things automated checks miss. We re-check whenever a page is added or changed.
What that means in practice- Every image has a text description, and decorative images are hidden from screen readers.
- Pages have a single main heading and a logical heading order, with named regions for navigation, main content and footer.
- Every page can be used with a keyboard alone. A "Skip to content" link appears when you press Tab, and the item you're on always has a visible focus outline.
- Text meets or exceeds the minimum contrast ratios for its size. Information is never conveyed by color alone.
- Text can be resized to 200% without loss of content, and pages reflow on phones and tablets.
- Nothing flashes, auto-plays or moves without your say-so.
- Charts and maps on the site are accompanied by text that states what they show.
PDF documents. Some documents on this site are provided as PDF files, including the slides from our ventilator program presentation and our paramedic application. The presentation slides are images and do not contain readable text; the same content is available as a web page in our ventilator program review. If you need any PDF in another format, contact us and we will provide one.
Third-party sites. Some links lead to sites we don't control, such as LinkedIn and GitHub. We can't guarantee their accessibility, but we will help you get to the same information another way.
Tell us if something doesn't workIf you run into a barrier anywhere on this site, or need information in a different format, we want to hear about it. Let us know which page you were on and what went wrong, and we will respond within five business days.
